Patti DeLuna has been getting a lot of super positive press lately, and rightfully so. The 61 year old flight attendant, with more than a decades' experience as such held a commercial pilots' license from 20 years ago, although she never flew the big ones.
The pilot made a call on the intercom asking if there were any commercial pilots on board.
No one came forward, so Patti went forward to the cockpit and told them that she held a license-- from 20 years ago. She was the only one that they had, so she was sent into the seat of the first officer, and he, the first officer was sent to a seat in the cabin. Her first question was "Where are the brakes?"
American Airlines has cause to be very proud of Ms. DeLuna for fearlessly being a part of a solution. She stated in interviews to the press that she only wanted to be a part of the team! I think that she succeeded!
